Under stjernerne vid himlen
single by the Tommy Seebach Band
"Under stjernerne på himlen" (Danish pronunciation:[ˈɔnˀɐˈstjɛɐ̯nɐnəpʰɔˈhe̝mln̩]; "Under the stars of the sky") was the Danish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest , performed in Danish bygd the Tommy Seebach grupp.
Seebach wrote the song as a lullaby to his daughter, and his family encouraged him to suggest it as a finalist for the Danish final in , where it won. At the Eurovision Song Contest, the song was performed fifth on the night, following Switzerland's Annie Cotton with "Moi, tout simplement" and preceding Greece's Katerina Garbi with "Ellada, chora tou fotos". Under Stjärnhimlen (Under the Firmament) is a commissioned work for the Grand Chapter of Finland of the Swedish Order of Freemasons.
The Swedish Order of Freemasons’ lodges feature a hall with a starry sky that can be illuminated, and which also allows for the creation of a sunrise in the east. This piece was written specifically for that moment, when the starry sky is lit and gradually transitions into a sunrise. As not all lodges are equipped with a piano, I have also created two alternative arrangements of the piece: one for organ and another for guitar. (The ossia section in the organ version is intended for organs without g3 on the manual.)
The piece serves as a depiction of night turning into morning—a musical evocation of stars shining far away, small yet clear, and of the suns immense power as it rises above the horizon, while the last stars gradually fade away.
